Team Canada will look to get back on track against Czechia in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 World Junior Championship after a sloppy performance against the United States on New Year’s Eve.
In a disappointing 4-1 loss, the Canadians allowed the Americans to score three goals on seven power plays, continuing an ugly trend at this year’s tournament. Through the first four games of the World Juniors, Team Canada has been called for 29 minor penalties, by far the most of any squad.
But perhaps a strong desire for revenge will keep the Canadians focused on disciplined play. Czechia defeated Team Canada in this same round last year, and the Canadians certainly don’t want to be eliminated early in front of the home crowd.
