History will be made on Friday night, as official boxing matches will be held in Times Square. Fatal Fury: Times Square is a three-bout card that will be held in Times Square in the middle of Manhattan on Friday, May 2.
Instead of choosing to hold the event at Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center, it was decided that they would block off a section of Times Square, build a boxing ring, and bring in lights to hold an entire boxing event right there on the street. It was a head-scratching decision from the start, given how busy Times Square can be.

Still, one interesting angle for the boing fight was that since it was just on the streets of Times Square, it would be viewed by people passing by. Instead, on the day of the fights, a blockade was erected around the ring. This makes sense from a security perspective, but doesn’t exactly live up to passersby being able to watch it.
Here is more on the boxing ring set up in Times Square for the Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney card.

Where is the Times Square boxing fight?
Ring Magazine’s decision to hold the fight in the middle of Times Square is an interesting one. New York City will be closing down nearby streets similar to when they host the New Years Eve ball drop. But it looks like they built the ring right in the middle of Times Square.
These are the road closures that will happen due to the event.
- West 42nd to West 49th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway
- West 43rd to West 48th between Sixth and Eighth avenues
- West 37th to West 57th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway
- West 37th to West 56th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues

The curious thing is that while it was invite-only for seats near the ring, there was expected to be a fence for security measures. The thought was that the fence would be see-through so that people passing by.
Ahead of the fight on Friday, however, there was a red banner attached to the fence which you can not see through.
