The Cleveland Browns had an adventurous quarterback offseason.
They signed veteran Joe Flacco. Then they traded for Kenny Pickett from the Eagles, but he’s already been traded away again.
Then in the NFL Draft, they took Dillon Gabriel with the 94th pick and Shedeur Sanders with the 144th pick.
There was also a dalliance with Tyler Huntley in the preseason, and Bailey Zappe is in town now, too, on the practice squad.
Heading into Week 1, Flacco is the starter to face the Cincinnati Bengals. But it’s been a winding road to get here, and everyone is curious about the rookies.

Where is Shedeur Sanders?
Shedeur Sanders is the Cleveland Browns’ third quarterback for Week 1.
That means he likely won’t see action in the opener, or even for most of the season, except in case of injuries.
He wasn’t cut, which some wondered about during the offseason. But he’s got a long climb to go.

Cleveland Browns QB depth chart
The Browns’ QB depth chart looks like this:
- Joe Flacco
- Dillon Gabriel
- Shedeur Sanders
- Bailey Zappe (practice squad)
The 40-year old Flacco will start against the Bengals.
His direct backup is Gabriel. The lefty was chosen in April exactly 40 picks (and a day) earlier than Sanders.
Sanders has been given the official roster designation of emergency QB3, meaning he can only get in the game if the first two guys get hurt.
