When will De’Aaron Fox play for the Spurs? Latest updates on San Antonio debut date after trade from Kings

The Kings traded star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs in a three-team deal on Sunday night. Sacramento had taken its usual step back this season and clearly hopes this deal will help to avoid a full-on rebuild.

While the Kings future is once again murky, San Antonio’s is looking bright. The Spurs now have one of the best guard-center combos in the league between Fox and Victor Wembanyama and will look to make a deep playoff run well ahead of schedule.

When will the Fox-Wemby era officially begin? Here are the latest updates on when Fox will make his debut for San Antonio.

When will De’Aaron Fox play for the Spurs?

Fox played for Sacramento in Oklahoma City on Saturday. San Antonio’s next game is Monday night in Memphis. Geographically, Fox will have no problem getting to the game, but it’s likely that he will miss at least his new team’s first matchup as he travels, gets a physical, and becomes more familar with the roster and gameplan.

De’Aaron Fox Spurs jersey number

We don’t know what Fox’s number will be yet with San Antonio. He wore No. 5 with Sacramento, but his new teammate Stephon Castle is already wearing that number. Fox wore No. 0 in college at Kentucky, but Keldon Johnson is wearing No. 0 for the Spurs.

The photoshopped version of Fox in a Sours jersey that all of the analysts put out has him wearing No. 8. That number is currently open with the franchise, but doesn’t mean that is what he will be wearing.

Spurs upcoming schedule

Here are San Antonio’s remaining games ahead of the 2025 All-Star break. The Spurs home fans will not get to see Fox until at least Feb. 20 thanks to an upcoming six-game road trip before the break.
