When is Everton vs Liverpool? Date, time of 2024 Premier League Merseyside derby moved due to FA Cup quarterfinals

Once again, Merseyside’s two famous old clubs are experiencing contrasting fortunes in the Premier League.

Liverpool are in the thick of a three-horse title race with Arsenal and Manchester City, sitting second on goal difference behind the Gunners with 10 games remaining after a gripping 1-1 draw with City at Anfield.

Everton, by contrast, are battling against relegation amid turmoil off the field and a failure to win a Premier League game since mid-December. With just one win over their fierce local rivals in nearly 14 years, this is not a match-up most fans will have been looking forward to, but a surprise result could help to galvanise their survival bid.

The derby at Goodison Park was due to take place on March 17, but the game has been postponed due to the FA Cup quarterfinals taking place over the same weekend.

The Sporting News has the latest on when the match will now be played.

When is Everton vs Liverpool? Date, time of 2024 Premier League Merseyside derby

Everton vs. Liverpool was set to be held on Sunday, March 17. However, the game was moved due to the FA Cup quarterfinals taking place over the same weekend.

The Premier League has not yet confirmed when the rearranged match will be held. There are possibly midweek dates in April, but the weeks beginning April 8 and April 15 are likely to be unavailable as UEFA Europa League quarterfinal matches will take place on April 11 and April 18. Liverpool are 5-1 up after the first leg of their Round of 16 meeting with Sparta Prague.

The following midweek of the w/c April 22 is a potential slot for the fixture. If Liverpool’s Europa League run continues until the semifinal stage then the only remaining alternative slot for the Everton game would be the w/c May 13 — the final week of the Premier League season.

It is also worth factoring in that Liverpool’s April 20 trip to Fulham would have to be moved if they make that weekend’s FA Cup semifinals.

Why was Everton vs Liverpool postponed?

The game was moved because of the FA Cup quarterfinals, which are taking place over the same weekend (March 16-17).

Everton are no longer in the competition, having lost 2-1 at home to Luton Town in round four, but Liverpool face a mouth-watering round-six clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on March 17.

Which Premier League games have been postponed due to FA Cup quarterfinals?

Everton vs. Liverpool is not the only game to be moved because of a clash with the FA Cup.

The London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea, initially slated for March 16, has also been postponed. Manchester United’s game at home to league strugglers Sheffield United will likewise take place at a later date, as will Manchester City’s away game at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Six Premier League games on matchday 29 have been postponed because of FA Cup commitments.
