When is Arsenal vs Chelsea? Date, time of 2024 Premier League London derby moved due to FA Cup quarterfinals

Arsenal matches against Chelsea are typically fierce local derbies, but the 2023/24 Premier League game at Emirates Stadium will likely have extra meaning given the Gunners’ title hopes.

Mikel Arteta’s side found themselves top of the table after matchday 28, their dramatic win over Brentford coming a day before title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

They were due to host Chelsea in north London on March 16. The reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge last October saw Arsenal recover from two goals down to draw 2-2, so there are high hopes that this latest matchup could provide plenty of drama.

However, the game has been postponed due to the FA Cup quarterfinals taking place over the same weekend. The Sporting News has the latest on when the match will now be played.

When is Arsenal vs Chelsea? Date, time of Premier League London derby

Arsenal vs. Chelsea was set to be held on Saturday, March 16, at 12:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. ET). However, the game was moved due to the FA Cup quarterfinals taking place over the same weekend.

The Premier League has not yet confirmed when the rearranged match will be held. There are possibly midweek dates in April, however the weeks beginning April 8 and April 15 will be unavailable if Arsenal overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Porto and reach the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

The following midweek of the w/c April 22 appears to be the most likely slot for the fixture. If Arsenal’s Champions League run continues until the semifinal stage then the only remaining alternative slot for the Chelsea game would be the w/c May 13 — the final week of the Premier League season.

Why was Arsenal vs Chelsea postponed?

The game was moved because of the FA Cup quarterfinals, which are being staged over the same weekend (March 16-17). Arsenal are no longer in the competition, having been eliminated by Liverpool in the third round in January, but Chelsea are due to face Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on March 17.

Which Premier League games have been postponed due to FA Cup quarterfinals?

Arsenal vs. Chelsea is not the only game to be moved because of a clash with the FA Cup.

The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, initially slated for March 17, has also been postponed. Manchester United’s game at home to league strugglers Sheffield United will likewise take place at a later date, as will Manchester City’s away game at Brighton & Hove Albion.

In total, six Premier League games on matchday 29 have been postponed because of FA Cup commitments.
