What J.J. Spaun said about his wife after winning the US Open

J.J. Spaun should have experienced one of the highest moments of his life after he won the 2025 U.S. Open. However, the exciting moment was marred by criticism after he was accused of snubbing his wife, Melody Spaun, during his victory celebrations.

On Sunday, June 16, J.J. landed an impressive 64-foot putt on the 18th hole at Oakmont Country Club to secure his first major win.

Moments after he won, the golf pro immediately went to his wife and two daughters, Emerson, 4, and Violet, 23 months, to celebrate. However, many spectators thought he ignored his wife, Melody.

“No idea what’s going on in JJ Spaun’s personal life, but ignoring his wife after the biggest win of his career on Father’s Day is worse than a triple bogey. Ouch,” one person commented on X.

“I think JJ Spaun hates his wife,” another person wrote.

“I think JJ Spaun and his wife are in the middle of a fight,” someone else said.

On Tuesday, June 17, the US Open winner explained the awkward interaction, telling “Us Weekly,” the night was “wild” for his entire family, and he did the best he could during the whirlwind moment.

“You go from this huge, euphoric moment to now you gotta count your scorecard, and you’re whisked off to the putting green and now you have to make this huge speech on national television and you’re trying to thank everyone you want to thank,” he explained. “I’m not always in these situations. Let alone a major championship.”

J.J. Spaun’s daughter was sick the night before the U.S. Open

JJ also revealed that his youngest daughter, Violet, was up vomiting the night before the final round of the Open, which resulted in him doing a CVS run at 3 a.m.

“My wife had to deal with all of the stress of getting the girls there and making sure they looked cute for TV,” JJ shared. “Having to run out at the right time and be presentable. I know it was stressful for her.”

He added, “She didn’t hit a shot, but she’s feeling drained just being the backbone of our whole family.”

The golf pro said his wife, whom he had started dating in 2013, knew nothing about golf when they met.

“She didn’t know what she was getting into,” he said, laughing. “My hat’s off to her for being such a huge support and understanding all these steps of my journey, learning as she goes.”

He added, “And then also raising two children where at times I’m gone for a month, you know? Basically single parenting.”

The couple was married in 2019.
