After five years of sweat, setbacks, and sheer emotion, Callum Wilson is leaving Newcastle United.
The 33-year-old striker, whose contract expired last week, announced his departure in an emotional statement after failing to agree a new deal.
“To all you Magpies, it’s time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years at the Toon,” Wilson said in an emotional post.
“Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club experience new heights.”
Wilson joined Newcastle from Bournemouth in 2020 for £20m [$23m] and quickly made himself a part of the club’s fabric.
From day one, he became a voice in the dressing room and a familiar hero at the Gallowgate End.

“I am so proud to have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and to have added a little more history to it,” he added. “Scoring at the Gallowgate End really is as special as they say.”
Despite injuries in his final season, Wilson still drew interest from Premier League sides and MLS clubs. “All good things come to an end,” he added.
“But there’s no doubt Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my family’s hearts.”

Callum Wilson’s time at Newcastle United was never just about the 49 goals he scored.
Wilson scored in his debut against West Ham, on his 100th appearance at Stamford Bridge, and 18 in a single Premier League season (2022-2023) that dragged Newcastle back into the Champions League after two decades in the wilderness.
The level of performance brought with it plenty of individual achievements. He was voted Newcastle Player of the Season in his debut campaign, wore the legendary number 9 shirt with pride from 2021, and stood tall among names like Shearer, Milburn, and Supermac.
But his first and only major trophy came in his last season, where he was part of the Newcastle team that won Carabao Cup after defeating Liverpool 2-1 and ending their 56-year wait for any silverware.
