After three days at Augusta, two players were within legitimate reach of earning a green jacket.
Rory McIlroy (-12) had the advantage, but Bryson DeChambeau (-10) was not far behind. The two came into Sunday among the favorites to close it out, each seeking their first Masters win. As the few holes of the final round unfolded, McIlroy and DeChambeau even continued to separate themselves as leaders — until, all of a sudden, they weren’t clear-cut favorites.
DeChambeau struggled on the 11th and 12th holes at the Masters, virtually ending his chances of making a run for the win. He quickly fell from second place down to fifth.

Sunday didn’t treat DeChambeau, a two-time major winner, as kindly. He got off to a fine start, taking the lead with a birdie on Hole 2.

But from there, things fell apart. DeChambeau notched consecutive bogies on 3 and 4 to lose his firm grip on second place.
Six consecutive pars helped DeChambeau find some consistency, but his struggles returned on Hole 11. He double bogied after hitting the ball into the water. And after another bogey on Hole 12, DeChambeau sat at +4 for the day.
With McIlory and Justin Rose establishing themselves as the leaders, DeChambeau’s double bogey and three bogies set him back much too far for contention. He did manage birdies on Holes 14 and 16 — but he was still three strokes behind first place. As Rose and McIlroy were neck-and-neck, DeChambeau fell behind the leaders as the tournament wrapped up.
