The Chicago Street Race is back for its third circuit around downtown, and NASCAR is once again saturating the Windy City with tire marks and thundering engines.
NASCAR made a drastic left turn in 2023 and moved its event to the center of a huge city after nearly 75 years of dominating everything from dusty dirt bullrings to lightning-fast superspeedways. The tradition is continuing to grow into its third year, having started on the streets of Chicago with that daring new chapter.
The streets surrounding Grant Park will be turned into a fast-paced playground for the Cup Series this Fourth of July weekend, which will culminate in the highly anticipated Grant Park 165.
There have already been plenty of fireworks at the tournament, but none have been as spectacular as Shane van Gisbergen’s incredible 2023 debut victory, which turned him from an international guest to a serious Cup contender. Alex Bowman stole the show last year, ending a two-year drought and making a spectacular comeback to Victory Lane.
With playoff pressure growing, the stakes are really high this time. The road to playoff success is rapidly becoming closer, with just four golden tickets left for drivers who haven’t yet won. With a recent home victory in Atlanta, Chase Elliott punched his postseason card and rekindled his quest for a second Cup.
