Longtime NL East rivals clash on “Friday Night Baseball,” as the Mets look to improve their playoff standing against the Braves.
New York seems to have snapped out of a dreadful funk, in which it lost 14 of 16 games. Of late, All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor is heating up in a big way, providing a much-needed spark. Lindor entered play on Thursday hitting .338 in August with a 1.026 OPS.
Rookie right-hander Nolan McLean, one of the organization’s top prospects, is set for his second career start on Friday. McLean impressed in a stirring MLB debut last Saturday, striking out eight across 5.1 scoreless innings.
While the Mets are still in the postseason hunt, the Braves have long since bowed out. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t playing good baseball: Atlanta has won 10 of its last 12 games, including a series victory at Citi Field last week.
The turnaround is in part fueled by center fielder Michael Harris II, who has been one of the best hitters in baseball since the All-Star break on the heels of a dreadful first half.
