Some of baseball’s best sluggers headline the first ‘Friday Night Baseball’ doubleheader of the 2025 season, with the Astros taking on the Mets.
Houston lost some marquee bats in the offseason — Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker, a couple of mainstays, are gone — but Yordan Alvarez still anchors a potent lineup. Last year, Alvarez hit .308 with 35 home runs, his fourth straight year with at least 30 homers.
Alvarez has a new sidekick, too. Rookie Cam Smith, the centerpiece of the Astros’ return for Tucker, mashed his way onto the Opening Day roster this spring. Smith, 22, hit four homers with a 1.130 OPS.
As for the Mets, Friday marks Juan Soto’s second game with his new team after signing a record-breaking contract in the offseason. Soto looked at ease in spring training, blasting four home runs.
