WATCH: Wan’Dale Robinson makes unbelievable catch in training camp

Training camp practices are a different breed from regular season practices. During this time, NFL coaches try a bunch of new things to see what works and what doesn’t, or whether they need to adjust gameplans to fit their personnel. As for players, training camp can be a time to push their limits and find out what they can get away with, which can result in some reps that look pretty bad to the fans. Occasionally, however, these risky plays end up with unbelievable highlights, like this must-see catch from rookie Cam Skattebo.

That was the case in Saturday’s practice for the New York Giants. During an early portion of practice, quarterback Russell Wilson uncorked a deep ball down the left sideline, targeting fourth-year receiver Wan’Dale Robinson. Second-year cornerback Andru Phillips was in tight coverage and initially broke up the pass with a beautiful swat as he was falling down. That’s when the play took a sudden twist. Check it out below.

Robinson showed fantastic awareness and body control on this one. It would have been easy to take the fall to the turf and just let the ball bounce where it may once Phillips batted it up. Instead, Robinson stayed in the play, kept his eye on the ball, and made the catch from the ground. Not only was this a cool moment to hype up the fans and the players, but the coaches had to appreciate his commitment, too.

NFL players are often told to play ‘whistle-to-whistle’, meaning you never give up on a play until the referees officially end the play. That’s what Robinson displayed here, and hopefully it carries over into the regular season. Robinson is one of New York’s exciting core of young players who are expected to power the Giants back into relevance.
