The NBA draft is expected to get interesting. With plenty of talent available throughout the draft, there could be a scenario where even contending teams look to acquire a higher pick, attempting to add a young, win-now player.
For the Golden State Warriors, that could be something they’re interested in after a somewhat disappointing year that ended largely due to Stephen Curry’s injury.
While the Warriors are built to win right now, they also have to be creative and understand that there’s a future beyond Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. This organization doesn’t want to be in a spot where they have to tank for many years, so adding young talent now might be the better plan.
In a recent trade idea from Sports Illustrated, they’d accomplish just that. The trade idea would involve moving on from Moses Moody, the 41st pick, a 2027 top-10 protected pick, and a 2030 second-round pick in return for Cam Whitmore and the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft from the Houston Rockets.
“In this theoretical deal, the Warriors trade into the top 10 of the 2025 NBA Draft by dealing guard Moses Moody, two second round picks and a protected future first. In exchange, they also get a reclamation project in wing Cam Whitmore.
“Landing the top-10 pick allows Golden State to re-shuffle their roster and land a top developmental talent. The ’25 draft is a loaded one chock full of future NBA contributors, and the team could swing on guards, wings or front court players,” Derek Parker wrote.

The Rockets are entering a win-now position, so adding Moody might not be the best plan.
While the 10th pick could be used to acquire a star, it makes it tough to envision a scenario where adding somebody like Moody would make sense for them.
Whitmore has also shown the ability to be a potential rotation player for the Rockets, something they need to consider here.
