The Golden State Warriors have made it clear they aren’t just going to trade Jonathan Kuminga for pennies. They believe he is worth a decent return, and the front office would rather keep him on the team than trade him below value. That’s part of why it has been so difficult to get a Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade done.
One team that has shown interest in a Kuminga trade is the Chicago Bulls. Kuminga would fit in great with their current timeline and could join the team as a starter and featured offensive piece.
This Bulls-Kuminga trade idea would send Kuminga to the situation he is hoping for while getting the Warriors an OK return.
The Warriors-Bulls trade looks like this:
Warriors receive: Kevin Huerter, Portland’s 2026 first-round pick
Bulls receive: Jonathan Kuminga via sign and trade
The Warriors have said they want a solid first-round pick if they are going to trade Kuminga. This Bulls-Kuminga trade would get that done. The Portland Trail Blazers’ pick next season is projected to be in the lottery. The Warriors could use that pick to get more veterans to help Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler make a championship run.
Kevin Huerter is also a nice piece to get in this trade. Last season with the Bulls, he shot 37.6% from three and is an underrated rebounder and distributor. He would provide the Warriors with some much-needed spacing on offense. His defensive limitations would be an issue, however.
Is this the ideal Kuminga sign-and-trade scenario? Not really. Huerter is a nice player, but the Warriors already have too many guys who are negative defenders. The draft pick is super nice, but that only makes it worth it if they are able to flip it into another important rotation player.

In the end, the Warriors will likely keep Kuminga. If they sign him to an extension, they can try to trade him once the season starts. It’s unfortunate, but at this point, that may be the Warriors’ best option.
