Warriors’ Stephen Curry compared to March Madness hero after unlikely upset

Stephen Curry, meet Bennett Stirtz.

The Warriors legend knows a thing or two about March Madness heroics. He led Davidson to the Elite Eight in 2008.

A decade and a half later, another guard from a mid-major is drawing comparisons to Curry.

Stirtz, with 21 points (8-11 FG) in 11-seed Drake’s first-round upset win over 6-seed Missouri, is gaining plenty of notoriety in a hurry.

TNT’s Kenny Smith compared Stirtz to Curry on the postgame show.

Drake fans certainly hope Smith has some more truth to that. The Bulldogs would love a run to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Stirtz, a Division II transfer like a number of his teammates, won the Missouri Valley Conference’s Larry Bird MVP award.

Curry was never a D-II player, but he had few D-I scholarship opportunities and made the most of his time at Davidson before a historic NBA career.

Stirtz will certainly be turning NBA heads for as long as this Drake run goes, and if Curry is any indication, the Bulldogs might have a few wins left in them.
