The Golden State Warriors have some huge decisions to make over the next few days. Warriors’ GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has very little cap space to work with and needs to revamp the roster with some key free agency signings. One Warriors free agency target, Al Horford, was recently linked as a top priority for Golden State. Unfortunately, an Al Horford-Warriors signing would be a mistake.
For one, the Warriors are already too old. They have a few youthful key rotation pieces, but their best three players are in their mid-30s and past their prime.
The Warriors’ free agency targets need to be players on the younger side who can stay healthy through an entire season and a deep playoff run. Al Horford is 39 years old. Although he’s been relatively healthy for the Celtics the last three seasons (over 60 regular season games in each), he’s down to playing under 30 minutes a game and has seen a production over the last few seasons.
The Western Conference is full of young, athletic, up-and-coming teams. The Warriors can’t add a 39-year-old to their core and keep up.
An Al Horford-Warriors signing would have been perfect a few seasons ago, but now it’s just too late. The Warriors need to focus on bringing in players who are experienced but still have some athletic gas in the tank.

Al Horford’s free agency will probably land him a decent-sized contract as well. Unless he is willing to take the veteran minimum, the Warriors should stay away.
