Warriors should reunite with $54 million NBA champion wing to help Stephen Curry chase title

Jonathan Kuminga’s ongoing restricted free agency saga continues to define the Golden State Warriors’ offseason.

The 22-year-old has been locked into a stalemate with the franchise, and it appears that the Warriors’ former No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and fellow 2022 NBA champion, Moses Moody, has been dragged into sign-and-trade discussions as a result.

Moody’s name came up in recent reports detailing obstacles that have prevented the Warriors from completing a trade, largely due to the fact that they are determined to keep the rising wing out of trade talks.

While Golden State would love to keep their developing 3-and-D talent on the roster, it’s plausible to wonder if dealing him away to rekindle their relationship with veteran San Antonio Spurs role player and knockdown three-point threat, Harrison Barnes, would prove to be a better idea.

At 33 years old and on an expiring $19 million contract, the versatile wing might be a perfect trade target for a Warriors team looking to cash in on the remaining prime years of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.

If the Warriors eventually come around to the thought of letting Moody go, it’s possible that a one-for-one swap could go be in order. On the other hand, Golden State would not prefer to take on $7.2 million in salary, meaning a player like Buddy Hield would be packaged with the young forward in this hypothetical.

Barnes competed in all 82 games for the Spurs in 2024-25, contributing 12.3 points and 3.8 rebounds while connecting on a blistering 43.3% of his 4.4 attempts from the three-point line.

As a player with plenty of postseason experience, specifically for Golden State during their NBA title victory in 2015 and following Finals appearance in 2016, Barnes would slot in as a consistent wing presence with the ability to score in a variety of ways.

His three-point efficiency and overall offensive game has come a long way since his days in Golden State, and he could prove to make a massive difference for this current-day iteration of the squad.
