On paper, the Golden State Warriors roster is not a great one. Frankly, if the Warriors don’t figure things out over the next few weeks to months entering the year, it’d be tough to justify the roster that the front office has put together.
However, because there’s still time and a few decent free agents are expected to sign with the Warriors before the season starts, there’s hope that things could be worked out.
If the Warriors do what they have to do, there’s a good chance they could have an opportunity to compete for a title with Stephen Curry and the other top players on the roster, depending on their performance.
Warriors want Pelicans standout
There’s also a chance for the Warriors to make a blockbuster trade, and according to a recent report from Jake Fischer, Golden State has interest in doing just that. Per Fischer, the Warriors are interested in Trey Murphy, a young wing for the New Orleans Pelicans.
“Trey Murphy in New Orleans is someone the Warriors really have interest in,” Fischer said. “Someone they almost took in that 2021 NBA Draft at No. 14 overall when they were deciding between Trey Murphy and Moses Moody, just like the Warriors were deciding between Kuminga and Franz Wagner.”

Every contending team in the NBA would love to add a player of Murphy’s caliber. He’s 6-foot-8, can defend the best player on opposing teams, and has become a knockdown shooter from 3-point range.
Last season, his fourth in the league, was his best yet, shooting 45.4% from the field and 36.1% from 3-point range. He also averaged a career high of 21.2 points.
The issue for the Warriors, however, is the fact that he’ll likely be very expensive in a trade.
Golden State might have assets to make a move, but that doesn’t mean it wants to get rid of all of them in one deal.
