Warriors’ physicality in first-round matchup criticized by Rockets star

The Golden State Warriors have heard postseason complaints from Houston for over a decade now, and the newest generation of Rockets are continuing the tradition.

Throughout the mid and late 2010s, the Rockets and Warriors matched up almost annually in the postseason. Each time, the Warriors got the best of Houston, which typically followed with the Rockets making some kind of complaint to the league office or simply to the media.

While almost everyone in the building in Houston for those matchups is gone, Alperen Sengun is the latest Rocket to call out the Warriors. Although it might seem strange for Sengun to still be upset four months after the fact, he is one of many who have quickly grown frustrated with Golden State’s antics.

“They’re a very experienced team, and they fouled a lot,” Sengun said to Turkish outlet Socrates. “In the playoffs, they don’t call it. But they were the ones crying all series about fouls not being called.”

Sengun’s complaints certainly sound similar to so many about the Warriors over the years. Considering Draymond Green was often the one matching up against Sengun, it makes sense that there might be some complaining about the physicality.

With that series being Sengun’s first taste of playoff basketball, it’s unsurprising that he might not have been ready for the physicality that Green brings to the table. A former Defensive Player of the Year, Green has been the Warriors’ anchor on that end for years, and he’s unafraid of taking tough matchups and getting extremely physical.

With the possibility of another Warriors-Rockets playoff series in 2026, don’t expect the physicality to go away.
