Warriors might land ex-Knicks sharpshooting forward via buyout to help Stephen Curry

On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors made headlines by acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat in a multi-team deal.

The move gave the Warriors more star power heading into the second half of the season but didn’t provide them with a flawed-free roster.

The organization could target a former New York Knicks sharpshooting forward on the buyout market to improve their perimeter shooting and assist Stephen Curry.

“The last time the Warriors won the championship, they had a sweet-shooting European big man on the roster in Nemanja Bjelica,” Clutch Points’ Jedd Pagaduan wrote Saturday.

“Now, this is not to say that Bojan Bogdanovic is the same player as Bjelica; Bogdanovic has more ball-handling capabilities, while Bjelica is more versatile defensively.”

“Bogdanovic, however, has not been able to suit up at all this year due to injury woes. He has been cleared for on-court work, which is a promising sign, but can the Warriors gamble what’s left of their available money on someone who isn’t guaranteed to be an impactful player for them for the stretch run?”

After spending the first half of the 2023-24 campaign with the Detroit Pistons, Bogdanovic was traded to the Knicks midway through the year.

Bogdanovic appeared in 29 regular season contests and four postseason clashes with New York before injuring his wrist and foot.

While the former second-round pick played through his wrist injury, he was forced to miss the remainder of the playoffs after suffering a season-ending foot injury in the Knicks’ Game 4 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bogdanovic averaged 10.4 points on 37.0% three-point shooting during the regular season, and 6.0 points on 40% long-range shooting in the postseason with the Knicks.

The 35-year-old veteran was shipped to the Brooklyn Nets during free agency but hasn’t appeared in a game for the franchise this year following offseason foot surgery.

Considering the Warriors are a team that prides itself on attempting and drilling as many triples as possible in 48 minutes, Bogdanovic would be an ideal fit for the organization.

Bogdanovic would likely be a liability defensively, but he could stay wide on the perimeter on the offensive end and maximize his three-point shooting opportunities with the Dubs.

Golden State should consider acquiring Bogdanovic after completing a meaningful deal before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
