The Golden State Warriors may complete a drastic deal before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
The organization could close its title window in a blockbuster trade by sending a four-time NBA champion to the Orlando Magic for an underrated ex-Los Angeles Lakers wing.
“Watching KD (Kevin Durant) and Steph Curry go on a deep playoff run with Draymond Green over there, and they still have guys like Buddy Hield, Kevon Looney, Moses Moody, Trayce Jackson-Davis after this deal that could help Steph Curry win a title before he retires,” YouTube user ‘SROS’ said Monday.
“But let’s say that doesn’t happen, and let’s go in an opposite direction, and Steph is like, I want out of Golden State; I want to try to win a title before I retire; it’s not going to happen here in The Bay. We’re going to call up the Orlando Magic.”
SROS’ trade proposal would send Curry and Lindy Waters III to the Magic for Jonathan Isaac, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Anthony Black, and four future first-round picks.
Curry has been a revelation for the Warriors since joining the franchise in 2009.
Although the best shooter in NBA history didn’t achieve much team success during his first few seasons, he was an instant impact contributor for Golden State.
During the 2012-13 season, Curry reached the 20-points-per-game mark for the first time and never looked back.
The Davidson product eventually guided the organization to four championships, earned 10 All-Star selections, and received two MVP awards.
However, the Warriors don’t have a roster capable of making a deep playoff run this season, potentially motivating Curry to embark on a new NBA journey in his late 30s.
Acquiring Caldwell-Pope, a respectable 3-and-D wing who won a title with the Lakers in 2020, would be satisfactory, but it would still leave a massive void in the Bay.
Chances are, the Warriors will retain their superstar point guard this season.
