Warriors ‘have continued to due their due diligence’ on 76ers’ $60 million All-Star alum

The Golden State Warriors are much like the Philadelphia 76ers this season. Things haven’t gone their way, which could lead to them making some changes at the trade deadline.

Golden State could improve its playoff chances by upgrading its center position. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the team has looked into that. Scotto revealed which centers the Warriors have explored trading for, including a Sixers alum.

“The Warriors have continued their due diligence on the trade market and inquired about potential frontcourt upgrades, including Nikola Vucevic, John Collins, Jonas Valanciunas, and Robert Williams, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

He also added what Vucevic’s value is around the NBA right now.

“Several NBA executives believe Vucevic could cost a first-round pick to pry him from Chicago, given how well he’s played through the first half of the season,” Scotto wrote.

This isn’t the first time Vucevic has been reported as a trade target for the Warriors. Because the Bulls are stuck in No-Man’s Land, they don’t have much use for Vucevic. The question will be whether a team will trade a draft asset for the former Sixer. His contract only runs for one more season after this one, so the Bulls shouldn’t expect too much back for him in a trade.

Vucevic’s history with the Sixers

The Sixers originally drafted Vucevic in 2011, though he did not play much for them in his lone season with the team.

Philadelphia traded him in 2012 when they acquired Andrew Bynum. Bynum’s acquisition flopped for the Sixers while Vucevic blossomed into a star. Needless to say, that’s a move Philadelphia would take back in hindsight.

The saddest part about Vucevic is that he’s never had the chance to play for a winning team. Maybe that wouldn’t have been the case if he had stayed with the Sixers.
