Warriors get hopeful Giannis trade news, signals potential for blockbuster trade

While the Golden State Warriors still haven’t done anything this offseason, they are still being active. The Warriors aren’t going to stand around and let Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler waste their next season together. That’s why the Warriors are keeping a close ear to any Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors.

The Warriors trading for Giannis would change everything. Not only would they be much better positioned to contend immediately, but they’d have a star to build around while Curry leaves his prime.

Everything will hinge on Giannis asking out of Milwaukee.

While that hasn’t happened yet, one NBA insider gave an encouraging update (from the Warriors’ perspective) on the Giannis trade rumors.

Ramona Shelbourne addressed Giannis trade news, or lack thereof it on NBA Today.

“My sense is just from conversations around the league, I don’t think anything will be decided on his end until August, September, because big deals or anything like that, whether he goes or stays, that kind of decision won’t come until later in the summer.”

The fact that Giannis hasn’t committed to staying on the Bucks provides hope to the Warriors’ front office.

It may be why they haven’t made any drastic decisions in the trade market yet. If Giannis becomes available, the Warriors will need all the trade pieces they have in order to get him.

However, if the Warriors’ front office waits for Giannis news that never comes, they could find themselves too late to make other moves. The Warriors will need to gauge both whether a Giannis trade request is imminent and if he would want to come play in the Bay. If they misread the tea leaves, they could have been waiting for nothing.
