Warriors expected to sign former NBA champion center

The Golden State Warriors are finally making a transaction in what has been an extremely quiet for not only them, but the entire NBA. Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, Al Horford is expected to sign with the team, and earn a player option.

Horford departs the Boston Celtics after a four-year stint with them, the second of his career. Last season, he averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, shooting 36 percent from three-point range in 60 games (42 starts).

Even at his advanced age, Horford should still provide the Warriors with quality production in their frontcourt thanks to his ability to space the floor, and be a physical big man down low.

Signing Al Horford appears to be the first signs of life for the Warriors this offseason

The signing marks the unofficial start of the Warriors’ offseason, which has been largely upheld by the ongoing contract dispute between the organization, and Jonathan Kuminga. The team has been in talks with Horford for most of the offseason, and it seems the team has finally ran out of patience, and decided to go forward with the deal despite no resolution reached with Kuminga.

Next season will be an important one for the Warriors, who figure to stay aggressive throughout the offseason as they attempt to snatch any last bit of glory that they can while Stephen Curry is still a premier talent. With Curry and Jimmy Butler running the show for a full season, a strong offseason could set the Warriors up to contend in the Western Conference.
