One of the most high-profile players available in free agency is veteran edge rusher Von Miller, who was released by the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason.
Miller’s release comes after he tallied 14 sacks over three seasons in Buffalo. Miller posted eight in his first season before not securing any in 2023. He rounded out his Bills career with six sacks in 13 games last season, showing he’s still got gas left in the tank.
Buffalo appears to have already moved on from Miller after the signing of Joey Bosa, so there won’t be a release-and-reunion in the cards for the eight-time Pro Bowler and his now-former team.
When it comes to Miller’s next landing spot, it’s likely to come with a team that gives him a chance at a Super Bowl at this late stage in his career. That’s why Roto Baller’s John Johnson sees him going to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens are a very well-coached team overall, especially on defense. Orr’s first season was solid from a pressure and run-defense standpoint, and Baltimore had the sixth-highest sack rate in the league in 2024. And the Ravens are likely a lock for the playoffs as long as they don’t suffer a ton of injuries. Perhaps a better pass-rush could help Jackson finally win a game in which he plays poorly, and those seem bound to happen in the postseason, making this a great landing spot for Miller in one of his final years of the league, if he plays again.
The Ravens actually posted one of the highest sack totals in the NFL last season, but as we know, you can never have enough good edge rushers, especially in a loaded AFC that features some of the best quarterbacks in the league.
On top of that, Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh played out of their minds in 2024 and there’s no telling if they’ll be able to keep that up. Adding Miller would add length to Baltimore’s pass-rush and ensure the team keeps getting after the quarterback with success.
According to Over The Cap, the Ravens are now sitting with $11.8 million in cap space. Miller figures to garner somewhere in the neighborhood of $12 million annually in a new deal, something the Ravens can make work.
Baltimore still has some work to do in its secondary, which was a big reason for the team’s putrid pass defense in 2024. One way to help remedy that is to make sure the quarterback never gets rid of the ball, something Miller would help with.
