The Toronto Blue Jays need to do everything in their power to keep Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in town.
The superstar slugger is one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball and would be the perfect player to be their franchise guy for the next decade plus.
However, Guerrero and the Blue Jays have yet to come to an agreement on a long-term extension, leaving some to question whether a team like the New York Yankees could have a chance to sign him next winter.
While nothing is done yet, MLB reporter Mike Rodriguez reported that the Blue Jays and Guerrero are attempting to reach an agreement before Opening Day. Rodriguez added that the deal would be for more than $550 million over 14 to 15 years.
“According to my sources, Toronto and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are doing everything they can to reach an agreement before Opening Day. They were in discussions today, and my source says that they were talking about more than $550M for around 14 to 15 years,” Rodriguez wrote.
$550 million would be a fair price for Guerrero given the current market. Paying that much for a first baseman could be questionable in 99% of scenarios, but this is the 1% that makes sense.

Guerrero is that good, and while that comes with a price, it’d be in the Blue Jays’ best interest to make their fans happy.
The deal will hopefully be finalized soon for Blue Jays fans. Until then, however, most will continue to worry about something getting done.
