Vikings could be interested in Packers great Aaron Rodgers if one scenario plays out

If Aaron Rodgers’ goal has been to make the teams interested in him remain in limbo for an extended period of time, he has succeeded so far.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the one team that is still linked to the former Green Bay Packers star quarterback, and he still hasn’t made a decision or even given any real indication of what he may do. He reportedly met with the Steelers and Mike Tomlin, their head coach, recently, and Tomlin said the meeting went well.

It still seems, however, that Rodgers prefers to pull a Brett Favre and sign with the Minnesota Vikings, a team that went 14-3 with Sam Darnold under center last season. They could provide Rodgers with the offensive weapons he needs to end his career with a playoff appearance or two.

As of now, the Vikings don’t seem to have any interest in him, and they do seem invested in young QB J.J. McCarthy. However, in a recent article, ESPN’s Kevin Seifert did mention a potential scenario in which they could entertain the notion of turning to Rodgers.

“McCarthy would have to demonstrate overwhelming evidence this spring that he will not be ready to play this season, either because of an injury or a complete reversal of the skills and aptitude he demonstrated during his short time in training camp last summer,” Seifert wrote. “Consider Rodgers a break-the-glass option in case of an emergency. Otherwise, the Vikings are committed to their plan of getting McCarthy onto the field for the 2025 season.”

McCarthy was the No. 10 pick in last year’s draft just a few months after guiding the University of Michigan to the College Football Playoff National Championship. But he didn’t play at all last season after suffering a meniscus injury during the preseason.

Rodgers may be a bit over the hill, but he could perhaps thrive with a team such as the Vikings that features All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson, an excellent WR2 in Jordan Addison, a solid tight end in T.J. Hockenson and a former teammate of his in running back Aaron Jones.

As is often the case with Rodgers, no one knows quite what to expect from him moving forward.
