USWNT gold medalist contemplates making huge career decision

Trinity Rodman is considering a move, one that would take her across the Atlantic Ocean.

The United States women’s national team star forward, currently a member of the Washington Spirit in NWSL, may soon look elsewhere.

Rodman spoke with ESPN about the prospect of joining a team in Europe, which is a growing trend among USWNT players.

“I’ve always thought about playing overseas at some point in my career,” Rodman said. “I think I would kick myself if I retired and hadn’t done that. So it’s just a matter of when I think.”

Rodman went on to say that she’s currently focused on the upcoming season with the Spirit, so a move doesn’t sound immediate.

While it used to be almost unheard of, more United States star women’s soccer players are making the jump overseas.

In the past year, Naomi Girma moved to Chelsea for a women’s transfer fee record of $1.1 million. Crystal Dunn (PSG) and Jenna Nighswonger (Arsenal) also headed to Europe.

Lindsay Horan was a bit of a trendsetter in that category, playing for PSG from 2012-2016 and then moving back to France to play for Lyon in 2022.

Rodman has played with the Spirit since being drafted in 2021. Washington is coming off an NWSL runner-up finish in 2024.

She has 23 career goals with the Spirit and has put 10 in the back of the net for the United States. Soon enough, she may add another team to her list.
