The United States men’s national team will hold its annual January camp to kick off a 2025 calendar year which the U.S. federation hopes will be about growth in many ways.
With the USMNT building towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held on home soil, there is a mix of excitement and trepidation with how the squad under Mauricio Pochettino will fare.
Much of that will ride on how Pochettino handles the national team through the coming year, facing a schedule devoid of meaningful games against talented opponents.
It all begins now with January camp, which features a squad of entirely domestic-based players.
Because the camp and its concluding friendlies against Venezuela and Costa Rica fall outside an official FIFA international break, clubs can refuse call-ups from players.
Thus, the roster is plucked entirely from MLS clubs with the domestic league in the midst of its offseason.
The Sporting News brings you a rundown of the roster plus information on how to watch the pair of friendlies at the end of camp, with Pochettino scheduling a pair of matches instead of the traditional lone fixture.

Who will be on the USMNT January camp roster in 2025?
For the most part, top-level American talent has been sapped from Major League Soccer, as most players hoping to get a look on the national team have made their way to European clubs.
Thus, the January camp roster will look like a team of misfits, made from a mix of fringe veterans like Jesus Ferreira and Zack Steffen plus up-and-coming MLS standouts like striker Patrick Agyemang and holding midfielder Emeka Eneli.
The only players with true first-team credentials are center-backs Tim Ream and Miles Robinson who are both fighting for their places alongside a number of potential challengers, like 21-year-old Jalen Neal who was traded to CF Montreal just hours before the roster release.
The players with the most to gain include Patrick Schulte and Diego Luna, both of whom have impressed in their minimal time previously and are hoping to get another look at the senior level. Schulte especially could wriggle himself into the wide-open goalkeeper conversation within the first-choice squad.

New faces include St. Louis City winger Indiana Vassilev and unsigned playmaker Matko Miljevic who is without a club team after being released by Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys days ago. George Campbell joins the crowded room of center-back hopefuls, while Max Arfsten has interestingly been listed as a defender despite playing primarily on the wing for Columbus Crew.
Snubs include standout MLS defenders Andrew Privett and Jackson Ragen, who both had a sensational seasons in 2024, and LA Galaxy midfielder Edwin Cerrillo who was excellent in the club’s MLS Cup playoff run. Veteran Djordje Mihailovic is also left off after a strong MLS season which was ultimately cut short by injuries, and striker Brandon Vazquez was not included despite being officially announced as Austin FC’s record transfer hours before the release.
