Tyrese Haliburton keeps it all in the family. That’s not an exaggeration, either.
The Pacers guard broke out in a major way in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, landing two All-NBA Third Team nods, two Eastern Conference Finals appearances, and, perhaps most valuably, a gleaming Olympic gold medal — all while establishing himself as one of the league’s best floor generals.
Haliburton’s most recent flourish, which has seen him lead Indiana to the brink of the NBA Finals, has certainly captivated many. Yet, Haliburton has retained the boyish charm and bubbly nature that made him such a unique personality on the world’s stage.
Perhaps that’s a testament to his relationship with his family. Haliburton is one of the league’s most well-known family men. That dynamic hasn’t changed as he’s gone from peak to peak in his still-budding career, either.

So, just what are Haliburton’s familial roots, and how have they shaped him into the player — and man — he is today? Here’s what you need to know.
Tyrese Haliburton parents
Haliburton’s father, John, has drawn plenty of headlines as of late. But before he was known for his postgame antics — particularly his practice of waving a towel with Haliburton’s face sprawled across it — the elder Haliburton was a women’s basketball coach and referee.
Haliburton credited his father with introducing him to the sport as a youngster, telling the “Inside the NBA” cast that John Haliburton would have him watch hours of Magic Johnson footage. Perhaps that explains some of his play-making chops.
“Tyrese has always been the type of kid that you didn’t really have to push him because he had the desire from inside,” John Haliburton said. “All you had to do was direct him [and] let him do his thing.”
As for Haliburton’s mom, Brenda, she has long been Haliburton’s most vociferous supporters. She attended every one of his games as a youngster and was a fixture in the concourses throughout Haliburton’s high school and college careers.
“My mom has always come to everything,” Haliburton told The Ames Tribune. “There have been nights when we played in Milwaukee, so she would go and work and leave with me with a teammate or coach for a night, but make it to the game the next day, whether it was the afternoon or night.”

Tyrese Haliburton cousins
Basketball swirls in Haliburton’s blood. That’s not simply the result of his father’s relationship with the sport, either. He has a host of familial connections with the sport, namely through his two cousins — Eddie Jones and Jalen Suggs. You might’ve heard of them before.
Jones racked up three All-Stars nods and a Third-Team All-NBA appearance across 14 seasons in the league, while Suggs is one of the league’s best defensive guards. He recently inked a five-year, $150.5 million extension with the Magic, the same organization that drafted him.
