‘Two transfer dominoes fall’ as Liverpool chase Premier League defensive target

Liverpool are working to complete multiple transfer deals before Arne Slot’s squad return for preseason training in mid-July.

The Reds have already secured a deal for Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and completed a pre-agreed transfer to sign Valencia goal keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Those signings will instantly fill the gaps vacated by the double exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher who have moved on to Real Madrid and Brentford respectively.

However, the Premier League champions are far from finished in the transfer market, with club officials closing in on a record transfer for Frimpong’s former Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz, when the window reopens on June 16.

The final squad area under consideration for Slot is at left-back with Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez reportedly closing on a move to Merseyside.

Kerkez does not have a release clause in his Bournemouth contract, which runs until 2028, but Andoni Iraola’s side are demanding £45m [$60m].

When will Liverpool sign Kerkez?

All signs point to Liverpool having the green light to bring in the Hungarian international after he was released from international duty at the start of June to wrap up the final stages of a transfer.

Liverpool are willing to meet Bournemouth’s request, but other factors are now starting to fall into place, which will allow a deal to be ticked off.

Reports from the Daily Telegraph indicate Iraola was not willing to sign off on an exit until a replacement was sourced and the Cherries are the trail of Rennes’ flying full-back Adrien Truffert.

That’s one key domino knocked down, and Liverpool may also look to offload Kostas Tsimikas, to avoid an overload at left-back.

Kerkez is being brought in with a view to replace Andy Robertson in the long-term, and Slot is unconvinced over keeping Tsimikas as third choice, so the Greece international may request an exit.

Previous reports from Liverpool.com claim three EPL sides are looking at the 29-year-old – including newly-promoted Leeds United – alongside interest from Lille and Valencia.
