The Liam Delap transfer saga has seen many twists and turns in recent weeks, but it seems as though Chelsea are closing in on a deal for the Englishman.
The Blues were one of several clubs linked with a move for Delap, with the likes of Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United also reportedly in the fray.
The young forward’s potential and versatility have made him a hot prospect in this summer’s transfer market, attracting interest from some of the Premier League’s most ambitious sides.
Earlier in May, reports claimed that Delap was interested in joining Manchester United, and Old Trafford officials were confident of securing his services.
The Red Devils viewed the 22-year-old as a promising addition to their long-term project, especially with Ruben Amorim looking to reshape his squad following an underwhelming domestic campaign.
However, Ruben Amorim’s side lost the Europa League final since then and won’t be playing in any European competition next season.

That has proved to be a fatal blow in the Red Devils’ chase for Delap and is believed to be one of the reasons why the player chose to move to West London instead.
Delap is said to be eager to test himself at the highest level, and European football is a significant factor in his decision-making. With Chelsea set to return to the Champions League under new manager Enzo Maresca, the West London club is an attractive destination.
Reportedly, Maresca’s impact and Champions League football next season are two key reasons why the 22-year-old has picked Stamford Bridge.
Maresca’s reputation for developing young talent and playing an attacking style of football also aligns with Delap’s ambitions, making this move seem like the right step at this point in his career.
