Multiple indicators hint that it’ll be the final time for future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a New York Jets’ uniform, and he has the chance to make a lasting impression.
The Jets host the Miami Dolphins on January 5 at MetLife Stadium with Rodgers slated to make his 17th consecutive start for the Green & White. Despite the lack of wins, the 41-year-old’s ability to remain available throughout the rigors of the season is fulfilling to an extent.
“It’s important, especially, we’ve been out of the playoffs for a few weeks now, so that’s one of the final goals, is to play all 17,” said Rodgers heading into the December 29 visit to Buffalo.
Exemplifying the long-term instability that has plagued the Jets at the position over the past decade, Rodgers is set to become the franchise’s first quarterback to start a full season since 2015 when Ryan Fitzpatrick achieved the feat for a 16-game schedule.
With New York in the market for a new general manager and head coach, Rodgers likely won’t have the chance to do it again next season.

“To even be a small part of his story is, it’s an honor. If it happens to be his last game, let’s take him out on the right note,” said interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich earlier this week.
Having thrown 24 touchdown passes this season, Rodgers is one TD pass away from becoming the fifth man in NFL history to reach the 500 career mark.
“I would be fine sleeping in my bed 20 years from now with 499, but 500 definitely looks better on paper,” said Rodgers, who vowed to take some time to decompress prior to deciding on his playing future.
