Tua Tagovailoa doesn’t back down from Tyreek Hill comments

The Miami Dolphins have a controversy on their hands between quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Tagovailoa made some remarks about Hill, indicating a strain in their relationship from last season.

After last season, Hill came out with the statement “I’m Out” when the Dolphins missed the playoffs again last year.

Tagovailoa took offense to that statement and recently called his teammate out on it.

“It’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that,” Tagovailoa said. “A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek that are fans of his — everyone has seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything back up again.”

The former Alabama quarterback did not back down from his statement.

“I don’t feel it’s me talking bad about my teammate,” Tagovailoa said, via NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe. “I’m just trying to hold him accountable, because that’s what we’re trying to do with everybody on our team. And if this is what we say the standard is, then that’s what the standard is. Nobody’s exempt from it.”

Tagovailoa has been a quiet leader for the Dolphins, rarely speaking on subjects like this, but it’s clear he felt the need to take a larger leadership role on this team this year and call out Hill for his behavior

When healthy, Tagovailoa and Hill were highly productive, and Hill has often praised Tagovailoa for his play; their chemistry has been off the charts. It will be interesting to see how Hill will respond to his QB’s comments.
