Trade for Arizona Cardinals OLB Zaven Collins would be an ‘adequate’ move given Carolina Panthers’ offseason

The Carolina Panthers have done a good job this offseason, completely overhauling their historically bad defense, which finished third worst in the NFL last year.

One idea that was mentioned was trading for Cardinals linebacker Zaven Collins, as SI.com’s Mike Moraitis relayed.

“A former first-round pick, Collins definitely has not lived up to his draft billing,” Moraitis wrote.

“Collins isn’t the sexy name Panthers fans may want, but he clearly has the ability to make up for the production lost by Clowney’s departure. He also offers versatility and can play multiple positions if injuries occur.

“Adding Collins would be an adequate replacement for Clowney, and he would allow Scourton and Umanmielen to develop with far less pressure.”

This would be like needing to buy a toaster, and instead of going to Walmart to buy a toaster, you went to Temu and purchased one there. Then, when it arrived, you found out it was a children’s toy, and it only made cooking noises, you’ll still be hungry, and still be in need of a toaster.

This idea originated from Last Word on Sports‘ Anthony Palacios.

“Since they released Jadeveon Clowney this offseason, they need a short-term answer at least after repairing the defensive line for Derrick Brown, after they’ve acquired Tershawn Wharton,” Palacios said. “Josey Jewell hasn’t done anything phenomenal to solidify his starting spot, so Collins joining a part of this defense could make this team much better.”

I have been screaming from the mountain tops if the Panthers want to be competitive and prove that their offseason hype isn’t for nothing, they need to trade for Trey Hendrickson.

Even Mike Moraitis agreed, saying adding Hendrickson would be the finishing touch to the Panthers’ defensive transformation.

Trey fixes everything Carolina is looking to fix on the defensive front, from sacks to QB pressures, and they need to get him soon before another division rival decides that he’s the right man for their crew.

Adding Collins would only be a temporary fix to a problem that the Panthers haven’t been able to solidify since Brian Burns.
