Tottenham vs. Wolves lineups, expected starting 11, confirmed team news, injuries: Spurs’ defensive woes deepen

Tottenham may have the worst possible next opponent in the Premier League after once again falling to defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are hovering over the relegation zone but have won both games since the arrival of new manager Vitor Pereira, including an assured 2-0 win over Manchester United on Boxing Day.

Spurs famously thrashed defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season, but the number of points dropped in games they’ve been widely expected to win — or in which they had been leading during the match itself — could make them the perfect prey for Wolves’ rise from the depths.

And with pressure mounting on Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, a defeat at home to the Midlands side could deal irreversible damage to his job security.

The Sporting News looks at the latest team news and predicted lineups.

Defence remains the biggest concern for Spurs, with long-standing absentees Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies set to potentially be joined by Radu Dragusin. The centre-back was forced off during the Boxing Day loss to Forest with an ankle issue, with Postecoglou admitting “we’ll have to wait and see” if he will be able to feature at home to Wolves.

First-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remains out for some time to come with an ankle injury of his own, furthering the London side’s frailties at the back. Djed Spence’s suspension for a second booking in Nottingham means there is one more for Postecoglou to have to cope without at the weekend.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert remain sidelined until 2025.

Tottenham predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Forster (GK) — Porro, Bissouma, Gray, Udogie — Bentancur, Sarr — Kulusevski, Maddison, Son — Solanke

Injured: Vicario (ankle), Romero, Van de Ven, Davies (all thigh), Dragusin (ankle), Richarlison, Odobert (thigh), Moore (illness)
Suspended: Spence (red card)

Wolves have multiple long-term injuries in Pablo Sarabia, Boubacar Traore, Sasa Kalajdzic, Yerson Mosquera and Enso Gonzalez.

Mario Lemina, meanwhile, couldn’t return from a calf injury in time for the galvanising win over Man United and remains uncertain for the trip to North London.

Wolves predicted lineup (3-4-3, right to left): Sa (GK) — Doherty, Bueno, T. Gomes — Semedo, Andre, J. Gomes, Ait Nouri — Guedes, Cunha, Hwang

Injured: Sarabia (calf), Lamina (calf), Traore (knee), Kalajdzic (knee), Mosquera (knee), Gonzalez (knee)
Suspended: None
