Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a firm decision about Timo Werner’s future — and it’s not good news for the German international.
Werner, currently on loan from RB Leipzig, seems unlikely to earn a permanent move to North London. The decision comes after underwhelming performances and sharp words from manager Ange Postecoglou.
The 28-year-old striker joined Spurs on a season-long loan last summer with an option to make the move permanent for around £8.5 million.
Fans hoped for a comeback story from Werner after his earlier struggles in the Premier League with Chelsea. However, his displays haven’t been enough to convince Tottenham’s key decision-makers.
Werner has made 19 appearances so far this season, managing just one goal and three assists.
His lack of impact reached a breaking point during Spurs’ 1-1 Europa League draw against Rangers. Postecoglou, clearly unhappy, replaced Werner at halftime.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Timo Werner?
After the match, Postecoglou didn’t mince his words. He said Werner’s first-half performance wasn’t “anywhere near the level” required for a senior international.
“When you’ve got 18-year-olds playing, it’s not acceptable to me,” the Spurs boss said. “He’s a German international, he’s won the Champions League, and there’s a level of application you need to rise to. He didn’t reach that.”
Postecoglou added that taking Werner off at halftime was a clear message. He emphasized that the team is “in a fight” and needs players who can step up when it matters most.
The manager’s comments suggest frustration with Werner’s inability to provide the leadership and quality Spurs desperately need during a challenging period.

No permanent deal in sight for Timo Werner
Reports now claim that Tottenham’s decision is final. Werner will not be signed permanently next summer, and he will return to RB Leipzig. His short-lived loan spell has seen moments of promise, but overall, he has failed to deliver.
With Spurs battling injuries and struggling for consistency, Werner had an opportunity to prove his worth. Instead, his performances have only deepened concerns about his long-term fit at the club.
Tottenham fans will now look ahead, as the club continues its push to secure better results in the Premier League and Europa League.
