Chelsea are in the market for a new winger as Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen a key part of his squad.
The Blues opted not to extend Jadon Sancho’s loan spell at the club and have been left thin on options in their wide areas since his departure.
Maresca has been clear over Chelsea’s plan – whilst away on FIFA Club World Cup duty – after stating: “We have Noni, Pedro and Ty only as proper wingers so something for sure is going to happen. When the transfer window is open, for sure, we can do something.”
Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens and have already seen two bids turned down for the England U21 international in the mini June transfer window.
The club hierarchy have now returned to the negotiating table to try and finalise a deal for the 20-year-old before the end of their time in the USA.
Rivals Arsenal have also been linked with an offer for Gittens, but if Chelsea and Dortmund can settle on a fee, it looks like Stamford Bridge will be his summer destination.

According to Fabrizio Romano, who recently gave an update on Gittens’ situation, the player is only considering Chelsea as an exit option, and the Blues remain in constant talks with Dortmund over a deal.
It’s positive update for Maresca, but the Chelsea manager will have to make do with just Madueke, Neto and George at the Club World Cup, before any more changes are made.
The Italian coach did utilise the early summer window to secure a deal for striker Liam Delap from relegated Ipswich Town and complete a pre-agreement with Sporting CP over Dario Essugo.
