Toni Kroos praises Xabi Alonso for ‘important’ decision at Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s season has started well after two wins in La Liga, but many fans can sense that this is the start of something completely different from what they were used to before.

After four seasons with Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso arrives at Real Madrid with a very important approach to the squad.

Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos spoke with Real Total about Alonso’s new approach, which could improve the quality of the squad. Kroos believes that the previous game against Real Oviedo showed that players are pushing for better performances, as the coach demands a lot from every player in the squad.

Alonso decided to reveal that no player is guaranteed a spot in the starting lineup, and that was proven as he started Rodrygo over Vinicius Jr. against Real Oviedo, which shocked many fans.

Kroos finds this decision positive and believes that it could lead to an important season. The former Real Madrid midfielder says the decision is seen on the pitch already.

“It feels like everyone can now fight for their place in the team, which generally always increases quality. In the past, it was relatively clear in advance who would play when and for how much. If you reset things and ignite a completely new competition, it helps a team enormously, and in my opinion you can already see some of that on the pitch.”

Toni Kroos on Real Madrid’s win over Real Oviedo

Toni Kroos was satisfied with Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Real Oviedo over the weekend. The club legend did not want to predict how the season could go for Los Blancos, but could see significant changes.

Kroos mentioned that a problem Real Madrid faced last season was the games against big teams like FC Barcelona and Arsenal. Kroos looks forward to the games against big teams, whether in La Liga or in the Champions League.

“It was a good game at the weekend in Oviedo, but it’s not very conclusive; it’s simply too early for that. We saw at the Club World Cup that there are obvious changes in the team’s positioning on the pitch, but to be able to make a final prediction, I would want to wait for a few more serious tests. Last season, the big problem was that the team couldn’t win a single game against top teams, which has actually always been Real Madrid’s great strength in the past.”

Real Madrid will play against Mallorca on Saturday, which is the last game before the September international break.

After the international break, Real Madrid will play their first game of the new Champions League season and have a Madrid Derby against Atletico Madrid on September 28.
