Timberwolves’ Nickeil Alexander-Walker reportedly could leave in 2025 free agency

A couple of seasons ago, Nickeil Alexander-Walker signed with the Timberwolves in free agency on a two-year deal.

The AAV of the deal was around $4.5 million per year, and since then he’s given production that’s made the contract worth every penny.

With two conference finals appearances during his time in Minnesota, he has had an opportunity to shine, but now could be on his way out this offseason.

Will Nickeil Alexander-Walker sign with a new team in free agency?

Evan Sidery of Forbes reported, “The overwhelming expectation is Nickeil Alexander-Walker will leave the Timberwolves as an upcoming free agent.”

If Minnesota prioritizes paying Julius Randle and Naz Reid, who both have a player option for next season, the finances will become tight.

Sidery also said, “Minnesota could sign-and-trade Alexander-Walker to recoup assets.”

Alexander-Walker didn’t miss a single game with Minnesota playing 82/82 games in 23-24 and 24-25, as well as playing in all 31 playoff games spanning from the beginning of last postseason to now.

Alexander-Walker averaged 12.0 PPG, 2.6 RPG and 2.6 APG in the WCF against the Thunder this postseason.

His stats haven’t been astronomical, but he’s shown glimpses of being a quality bench player or even a starter in this league.

He should get a nice payday from a team with more cap space than Minnesota if he chooses to cash in elsewhere.
