While last year didn’t go to plan in the ring for Tim Tszyu (24-2), 2025 offers an opportunity for the former world champion to steady the ship and climb his way back to the top of the super welterweight champion.
First up, he takes on American Joey Spencer (19-1) in Newcastle on Sunday, April 6.
Can the Aussie get back in the winners’ circle or will Spencer pull off the upset on enemy soil?

Isaias Sette overcomes war with Brent Walton
Sydney’s Isaias Sette wasn’t the crowd favourite against Brent Walton but it didn’t stop him coming away with a unanimous-decision win (48-46 x3) after a five-round war.
Sette dropped Walton with an uppercut in the third round but the local boy did enough to survive to the bell.
Walton had some bright moments of his own to get the crowd excited but it would be Sette who got the decision.
Blake Wells upsets Andrei Mikhailovich
Victoria’s Blake Wells, who was rated a $5.40 chance with the bookmakers, claimed a hard-fought split-decision victory (58-56, 59-55, 56-58) over Andrei Mikhailovich.
Wells was cut above his right eye thanks to a head clash in the third round but battled on bravely for the win.
It’s now two straight losses for Kiwi Mikhailovich, who was unbeaten prior to his world title fight against Janibek Alimkhanuly last year.
Cody Beekin hands Ryan Daye first loss
The Central Coast’s Cody Beekin improved to 8-2 with a TKO win over the previously undefeated Ryan Daye.
Beekin stunned Daye with a left hook before some follow-up shots dropped him, the last of which was almost certainly illegal but didn’t appear to bother referee Dean Cambridge.
Upon the restart, Beekin swarmed, pounding away until the fight was waved off.
Cooper O’Connell impresses on debut
Teenage southpaw Cooper O’Connell was dominant on the way to a second-round stoppage of Benjamin Amos in his professional debut.
The 18-year-old son of former world title challenger Shannon O’Connell landed a straight left-right hook to drop Amos before putting him down again moments later and giving referee Chris Condon no choice but to stop the fight.
After claiming the youth world title in the amateurs last year, the young Queenslander looks well suited to make a splash in the pro game.
