Tigers trade pitch reunites with $79 million 295 home run slugger

The Detroit Tigers have been linked to multiple third basemen and right-handed bats over the past few months. For a Tigers team that’s clearly one of the best in Major League Baseball, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the front office finally go all in at the deadline and try to acquire players who can help them win at all.

There’s plenty the Tigers have to do to be true contenders, and winning in October will be at the top of that list, but after beating the Houston Astros a season ago, they proved that they can go on the road and win games when it matters most.

But the Tigers’ offense still has a few question marks, and with their lack of a right-handed bat in the middle of their lineup, it might be better for them to hit the trade market and attempt to find someone externally.

In a recent trade idea from Jim Bowden of The Athletic, they’d accomplish that. The Tigers would land Arizona Diamondbacks Slugger Eugenio Suarez, one of the better power hitters in Major League Baseball.

“The Tigers are for real. They’ll be aggressive at the trade deadline to bolster their bullpen and lengthen their lineup, with a power-hitting third baseman being their biggest need. Like the Mariners, a reunion with the Diamondbacks’ Suárez could be the best fit. Arizona could put Jordan Lawlar at third base to build for next year and let him work on his development in the majors in the second half of the season,” he wrote.

Suarez has continued to be one of the top power hitters in baseball this season, blasting 19 home runs. He hit 30 last season, something the Tigers would welcome in the middle of their lineup as they look to make a World Series push.
