Tigers tied with NL powerhouse in latest insider power rankings

The Detroit Tigers have come out this season with something to prove. After making the postseason in 2024 and making a slight run, they are looking to secure the division and make an even deeper run in 2025.

Going into Tuesday’s games, Detroit sits with a 78-55 record, holding a 10.5-game lead over the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. It would take a miracle for KC to overtake Detroit in the division, so Detroit can focus on resting players if needed or giving some prospects some looks in September.

The Athletic recently came out with their latest power rankings, and fans will notice they have moved up a spot, tied as MLB’s third-best team alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Philadelphia Phillies hold the second spot, while the Milwaukee Brewers have been ranked as the best.

While Detroit has three more wins than the Blue Crew has, you cannot overlook players like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, especially in a postseason setting.

The Tigers could take advantage of their end-of-season schedule

The Tigers are playing well, and that could continue given the strength of their schedule to end the season. They only have four more series where they face a team that is .500 or above.

Detroit should be able to run through series against the Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, and Cleveland Guardians.
By the time the regular season is over, the Tigers could certainly catch the Brewers for the best record in all of baseball and set themselves up for a deep postseason run.
