Tigers-Diamondbacks trade idea sends former All-Star slugger to Detroit

The Detroit Tigers currently have the best record in Major League Baseball at 48-27. Detroit has a nine-and-a-half game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central.

Detroit’s pitching staff is one of the best in the league, thanks to reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.

The offense is in the upper half of the league in just about every category, but the Tigers could use some extra pop to solidify their lineup.

Russell Dorsey of Yahoo! Sports listed several players who could be on the move at the trade deadline and named the Tigers as a potential landing spot for a former All-Star slugger.

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez could be on the move and would be a good power threat for the Tigers.

Suarez, 33, is known for his power. He has hit 20 or more home runs in his last seven full seasons (15 in 2020 shortened season).

This season, Suarez has 22 home runs and 62 RBI while slashing .236/.312/.536 in 74 games.

Suarez was an All-Star in 2018 with the Cincinnati Reds, hitting 34 home runs with 104 RBI and slashing .283/.366/.526.

After homering in today’s game versus the Toronto Blue Jays, Suarez now has 298 home runs and 893 RBI in 1,545 games.

If the Diamondbacks decide to sell at the deadline, Suarez will be one of the top trade chips available. If that’s the case, the Tigers should be interested in the power hitter.
