Tigers could target $33.6 million Blue Jays All-Star to bolster offense

The Detroit Tigers currently own the best record in Major League Baseball and have a nine-game lead in the American League Central.

Everything has been clicking in the Motor City, as the Tigers have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in the AL Central. But like all contending teams, they have needs that have to be addressed.

The trade deadline is the perfect opportunity for them to do just that. They could use a right-handed power bat.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report predicts the Tigers will be buyers and that Bo Bichette would be a perfect fit.

“The left side of their infield is an obvious weakness calling out for upgrades at third base and/or shortstop,” Rymer wrote. “Prying Bo Bichette from Toronto would be ideal.”

Bichette is having a strong season with the Blue Jays after struggling in 2024. He’s hitting .268/.312/.411 with eight home runs, 41 RBI and a .723 OPS.

The two-time All-Star is in the final year of his contract with the Blue Jays and likely will not return to Toronto in 2026, so it’s possible that they could look to trade him and capitalize on his value while they still can.

The Tigers have arguably the best farm system in baseball, and they can afford to cough up the prospects necessary to pull off a deal and acquire him from Toronto.

Their infield needs some work, and a right-handed power bat like Bichette could be exactly what they need to separate themselves from the rest of the American League.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Detroit can do at the deadline.
