The Detroit Tigers have allowed Jahmai Jones to show what he has. Jones, who has been around the league a bit over the past few years, is only 27 years old. He was drafted in the second round of the 2015 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
Jones made his debut with the Angels in 2020, appearing in three games that season. He eventually found himself on the Baltimore Orioles, where he appeared in 26 games for them during the 2021 campaign. In 2023, he was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers before joining the Yankees, with whom he played in 33 games in 2024.
Jones is a decent player, and he’s played well for Detroit over the first 19 games of this stint. He’s currently hitting .323 with a 1.045 OPS, including two home runs and four doubles.
He’s been much better than many expected, but according to a recent report from Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, it’s possible that the Tigers could look to replace him with a more proven right-handed bat.
“Jahmai Jones has played well, but the Tigers could seek a more proven right-handed platoon type in his place,” he wrote.

The Tigers have some right-handed options they could go with, including Justyn-Henry Malloy, Andy Ibanez, and others. However, if they’re looking for a player with multiple years of service who has played in the postseason plenty, they don’t necessarily have that.
It remains uncertain what the Tigers plan to do at the deadline, but this is the perfect year for them to go all in.
