Before the MLB trade deadline, the Detroit Tigers made a plethora of moves, all involving pitchers. Chris Paddack, Charlie Morton, Rafael Montero, and Kyle Finnegan have all made their Tigers debuts. But one other reliever has yet to make his debut.
Ahead of their series against the Los Angeles Angels, the Tigers announced that, along with designating Luke Jackson for assignment, they are recalling right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer, whom they acquired from the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline.
RHP Codi Heuer has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo. He will wear uniform #57 and be available for tonight’s game.

The 29-year-old reliever has three years of big league experience, pitching for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, and the Rangers since the 2020 season. But the new Tigers reliever didn’t pitch from 2022 to 2024 before landing with the Rangers in 2025.
This season in Texas, the right-hander had a 6.75 ERA in 1.1 innings pitched, the first innings he’s had since the 2021 season. In the minor leagues this season, Heuer has a 3.32 ERA between the Tigers and Rangers minor league teams in Triple-A.
He pitched 1.1 innings with the Tigers’ Triple-A team, notching a save, striking out two, and not allowing a hit or a run to score.

Heuer was drafted by the White Sox in 2018 in the sixth round of the MLB draft. He’s since played a few seasons in the Major Leagues, with the 91 innings of his career, 92.1 coming in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
In 2020, he had a 1.52 ERA in 21 games and was a solid reliever for the White Sox. He was traded mid-season to the Cubs for Craig Kimbrel in 2021, and had a 3.14 ERA for the Cubs in 25 games that season.
Now with the Tigers, he’s poised to make his season debut during the series against the Angels. With the Tigers looking to improve the bullpen in any capacity, Heuer was one of the players Scott Harris traded for at the deadline.
While the rest of the players acquired have made their Tigers debuts, Heuer is the last one yet to suit up in a Tigers uniform. Heuer joins the Tigers bullpen, as the team looks to rebound from a rough series against the Minnesota Twins.
