Tigers’ 25-year-old eyes rehab assignment after sustaining injury

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows found himself back on the team’s injured list in late July after missing the first 60 games of the season. Meadows suffered a groin strain on July 27.

He managed to play in just 38 games before finding himself back on the injured list. Although it isn’t quite as serious as the musculocutaneous nerve injury he suffered in his right arm during Spring Training, the 25-year-old hasn’t managed to stay on the field in 2025.

“I want to get out there just to compete… Just to be able to get out there and save guys’ legs, that would better our team for sure. Watching these games is tough. I still have an opportunity to help the team.”

“I’m feeling good. My legs are feeling good. I’ve been running a lot. It’s just about getting my feet back under me,” the outfielder said, according to The Detroit News‘ Chris McCosky.

Meadows joined the team as they travelled to Minnesota to take on the Twins during Players’ Weekend. Once they return, Meadows will go through an individual workout with hopes that he can begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

With the short amount of games Meadows has under his belt this season, he hasn’t been able to gather momentum at the plate. Through 125 at-bats in 2025, he has a .200 batting average, .270 on-base percentage, .296 slugging percentage, and a .566 OPS while hitting two home runs and nine RBI.

The Detroit Tigers have stumbled into a rough patch after taking a 15.5-game lead in the AL Central back in early July. After the Cleveland Guardians found momentum in August, they are now just seven games behind for the division lead.
