The Oklahoma City Thunder won again Tuesday night, mounting a fourth-quarter comeback to beat the Sacramento Kings by six points. Oklahoma City trailed by three entering the fourth, but delivered a dominant defensive performance down the stretch. The Thunder held Sacramento to just 18 points in the final quarter, outscoring the Kings 27-18 to seal the victory. A strong paint presence helped Oklahoma City prevail, as they outscored the Kings 52-34 inside.
The win came just one night after Oklahoma City edged the Dallas Mavericks by seven points. With two wins on back-to-back nights, the defending NBA champions are now 5-0. While a few teams remain undefeated, the Thunder stand alone at 5-0. The San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers sit at 4-0, while the Chicago Bulls are 3-0.
What makes the Thunder’s hot start even more impressive is that they have not been fully healthy. Last season’s No. 2 scorer, Jalen Williams, has yet to make his season debut as he recovers from a hand injury. Alex Caruso and Cason Wallace have also missed games, while Chet Holmgren sat out Tuesday’s matchup after playing Monday against Dallas.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Holmgren have each turned in dominant performances early this season, highlighted by Gilgeous-Alexander’s 55-point outing against the Indiana Pacers and Holmgren’s 31-point double-double against the Atlanta Hawks. Second-year guard Ajay Mitchell has also impressed off the bench, averaging 18.7 points and 4.3 assists through five games.
The Thunder will get a much-needed rest Wednesday before facing the Washington Wizards, who finished with the league’s second-worst record last season.
